BRAIN
FAILURE - American Dreamer (2005)
These
hard-core punks from Beijing have been compared to such punk
gods as Operation Ivy, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash, yet they
bring a much more advanced sound into the punk-rock genre; a
sound more for the kids, rather than for their parents. It may
seem odd to hear a decent punk band emerge from China, but this
quartet finds its American audience by rocking out to lyrics
filled with typical teenage angst, parties (both political and
the kind with a keg), and even the ever popular theme of anarchy,
as taken on by many other influential punk bands that came before
them. The thing that makes Brain Failure stand out among others
in the punk genre is that they claim to have started the punk
revolution in China, along with a few scattered others, making
it possible for the youth to once again enjoy music. Whether
or not this claim is factual, the band did have a huge influence
on the American punk scene, gaining recognition from favorites
like The Dropkick Murphys. Brain Failure’s big break came
in 2005 when they became the first Chinese punk band to grace
the stages of the Vans Warped Tour, the popular, summer punk-fest.
