MAZARIN – Understanding the Mysteries of Mazarin

By: Andrea Toro – Damn Good Noise

Record companies can often waste money by putting their energy into things that a band doesn’t approve of, but luckily, Mazarin seems to be part of a label that they can trust, and so those kinds of trivial matters rarely surface.
Stoltzfus would be content if he were locked in his recording studio. Although he loves traveling and playing live, he would much rather be recording, and quietly strumming his guitar, looking for the right lyrics to fit with each melody he creates. Tours get tiring, and he dislikes being away from his home and his family, and he dislikes the business aspect of the music business, but he hasn’t hired an agent yet, and has fears that when he does, things won’t get done right. When he’s in the studio, however, his cares seem to melt away and he can fully concentrate on creating amazing tunes.
“I hope people recognize the kind of time I put into my music. I always write songs from my heart, while still trying to make them interesting and unique. I’ve been a huge music fan for years and I’ve studied many types of music. I feel like I try to reflect on the best of the music that I’ve come across and then put those good qualities in my own music,” he said.
Although Mazarin’s music is magical and almost dreamlike at times, after talking with Stoltzfus I honestly would have never expected it out of him. He’s extremely down-to-earth, and even enjoys science as a hobby on the side. He especially loves Physics, although he claims any type of science will do.
But the point is, no matter how much of a science nerd he is (he and I actually talked about Dinosaurs, which was great!) his creative genius really emerges in his songwriting, and true musical talent is sometimes difficult to find.
I’d say even though he hates them, Quentin Stoltzfus gives a damn good interview.
